Sailors start playoffs with two wins against Grimsby

THE Port Dover Sailors won their first two games of the 2025–26 Provincial Junior Hockey League Schmalz Cup Playoffs over the weekend, besting the Grimsby Peach Kings 4–3 on Friday and 3–2 on Sunday to take a 2–0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The Sailors were down 3–1 with eight minutes remaining in regulation time before scoring three unanswered goals to rally back and win in Grimsby last Friday. Port Dover forward Jacob Passmore buried the go-ahead goal in Grimsby’s net at 18:04 of the third period. Goalie Samuel Rudner recorded the win for the Sailors.

Sunday’s game at Port Dover Arena was tightly contested, with the teams entering the third period tied 2–2. Sailors forward Trevor Nunn unknotted the score with a power play goal at 1:00 of the third period, granting his team a lead it wouldn’t relinquish. Winning goalie Samuel Rudner stopped 33 of 35 shots on net for Port Dover.

The series continues this weekend. Game 3 is set for 7:30 p.m. at Peach King Arena in Grimsby on Friday, and Game 4 starts at 2 p.m. at Port Dover Arena on Sunday.

If necessary, Game 5 is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at Peach King Arena on Monday, March 2; Game 6 would start at 8:30 p.m. at Port Dover Arena on Tuesday, March 3; and Game 7 would start at 8:30 p.m. at Peach King Arena on Thursday, March 5.
