Gary Kerby
KERBY, Gary of Port Dover passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe in his 78th year. Beloved husband of Sheri. Dearly loved brother of Karen Swackhammer (Gary) of Simcoe. Much loved brother-in-law of Jim and Joy, Larry and Ann, Bernie, Gary. Predeceased by his parents Charles and June, his infant daughter (1970) and his sister-in-law Patti. In keeping with Gary’s wishes, all services will be private. Bev McLeod
McLEOD, Beverly Elizabeth (nee Goulden) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Stedman Community Hospice in her 56th year. Loving wife of Dwight McLeod of Port Ryerse, dear mother of Dylan and Colton. Bev will be sadly missed by her mother Margaret and sisters Denise Goulden of London, Lorraine Goulden and Anne Goulden (Steve Harold) of Sarnia. Fondly remembered by her nephews Josh and Michael and niece Katie (Harold). Predeceased by her father Denis and brother Ian. Bev was an avid naturalist, bird watcher, musician, and loved to gaze at the stars through her telescope. Friends are invited to meet with family to share their memories of Bev on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Ave., Port Dover, (519-583-1530). Following the visitation a Celebration of Life Service will be held in memory of Bev at the Funeral Home Chapel at 4 p.m. Rev. Tony Bouwmeester officiant. Following this service a gathering of friends and family to celebrate Bev’s life will take place at The Greens at Renton. Anne Daw
DAW, Anne – It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Anne Daw (nee Puz) on Monday, May 4, 2015 in her 86th year. Born in Krenowicz, Poland (now Belarus), Anne’s family emigrated to Canada in 1939, settling in Port Colborne. Anne was a well-known and respected high school teacher at Port Dover Composite and previously at Stanford Collegiate, Niagara Falls. While teaching full-time and raising a family, Anne studied at McMaster University, Hamilton, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her career culminated in the position of Director of Business Education at Port Dover Composite School. She enjoyed 25 great years of retirement, spending time with family and friends, golfing at “the club”, gardening, and snowbirding in Tucson, Arizona. Anne was a long-time member of University Women’s Club, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Norfolk Golf and Country Club. Lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren, Deborah (Alan Payne), son Martin; Susan (Brant McKee), children Michael (Meg), Jennifer, Jessica, Emily and Amanda; David (Jeff Fisher); sister Maria Douglas and former spouse L. James Daw. Predeceased by brothers Nicholas and Stephen Puz. Special thanks to Dr. J. G. Johnston for over 40 years of care and kind friendship. Friends were invited to share their memories of Anne with her family at the Jason Smith Funeral Chapel, 689 Norfolk Street North, Simcoe for visitation on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A memorial service followed in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Mullin officiating. Private interment of Ashes in Port Colborne at a later date. Fred Flight
FLIGHT, Frederick passed away peacefully at home with his wife Pat by his side after a two-year battle with cancer on Monday, May 11, 2015 at the age of 71. Loving father of Susie (Darrel) Zientek of Ottawa and Debbie (Rob) Brown of St. Catharines. Cherished grandfather to Nathan, Dylan, Jake, Chase and Jordan. Fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Mick Aulton of Australia. Predeceased by his son Andy and sister Maggie Aulton. Fred was the consummate handyman especially carpentry, he enjoyed fishing, hockey and soccer, and was actively involved in the soccer program in Grimsby for a number of years. Friends shared their memories of Fred with family on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Avenue, Port Dover, (519-583-1530). TIPPING, Jack (The Beaver) passed away peacefully at Ian Anderson House on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 in his 81st year. Dear father of Jon (Jesse Webb) of Windsor and Judith (Rob Lee) Tipping-Lee of Mississauga. Proud grandfather of Nolan, Livia, Keegan, Gunnar and Danann. Fondly remembered by his siblings June and Sandra. Predeceased by his wife Irene (2014) and parents John and Isabelle. Donna Barry
BARRY, Donna of Port Dover passed away after a brief illness on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Norfolk General Hospital in her 80th year. Loving mother of Rebecca (Becky) Blake and Joe, Elizabeth (Beth) Barry and Alain St.Laurent and John Bradley (Brad) Barry and Trudy. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Heather Foster and Pat Knott, Syd Grey (Sebastian), Laura and Leah Blake, Veronica, and Matthew Barry. Great-grandmother of Emily and Tyler Foster. Predeceased by her husband Ronald (2009), parents Henry and Annie May Bonnett. Donna loved spending time with friends especially the coffee and card club where she has been a member for over 50 years. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, travelling and reading. Donna Ivey
IVEY, Donna Ruth passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Norfolk General Hospital in her 87th year. Loving mother of Linda (Allan) Given of Lakefield and Jay Ivey of Port Dover. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Doug (Peggy) Reid and Jean Lowe all of Port Dover; and Bonnie (Gordon) Wilson of Port Rowan. Proud grandmother of Paul (Ruth) and Scott Given; John (Claire) and Michael (Reagan) Ivey. Great-grandmother of Madeline, Ben, Brady and Lexy. Predeceased by her husband John, parents Ivan and Bobbi Reid and brother-in-law Sonny Lowe. She was loved dearly by many nieces, nephews and great-nieces. Donna was an independent, feisty lady who enjoyed life. She was the first Lady Commodore of the Port Dover Yacht Club, long-time member of the St. Paul’s Club, an avid golfer, loved to line dance and spend her winters in Florida. Donna was very generous with her time and would donate to any worthy cause or charity. She loved her cats BG and Toasty but more importantly time spent with her siblings and their families. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church corners of Market and St. George Streets.  Father Kendall Reimer officiant. Friends were invited to meet with family after the service to share their memories of Donna at St. Paul’s Parish Hall. Jack Newhouse
NEWHOUSE, John (Jack) Vernell: After a brief illness, Jack passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the age of 83 at Norfolk General Hospital. Jack was born the son of Edna and Everett Newhouse and the brother to Howard (late Joan), late Urla (late Lorne) and Ada (Bill). Jack was the loving husband to his wife Phyllis (nee Marr) – having met each other 65 years ago. Jack and Phyllis were raised in Dunnville where Jack pursued the young beautiful Phyllis at the tender age of 17. Jack worked as a Hoisting Engineer, and at Ontario Hydro, Nanticoke. His passion was to give back to his community: a member of the Masonic Lodge where he received his 50 year pin in 2014; and as a volunteer at the Dunn Fire Hall for 25 years, both as a charter member and Fire Chief. Jack had wonderful memories of dances at the Dunn Fire Hall, fishing and hunting with his friends and the small friendly community there. Jack and Phyllis raised three wonderful children, late Bob (2006), Ruth of Ancaster, and Paul (Nicki) of Oakville. Jack was very proud of his four grandchildren Philip, Brooke (Andrew Rous), Jonathan, and Kate. Jack and Phyllis loved their community in Port Dover having moved there in 2002. They have made many strong friendships in Port Dover at Grace United Church and the Horticultural Society. Special thank you for the friendship and support of Rev. Jeff Smith; and grateful for the care given by the doctors and nursing team at Norfolk General Hospital. A celebration service of Jack’s Life was held at Grace United Church, Port Dover on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace United Church, Port Dover or Trillium Foundation – Gift of Life (www.giftoflife.on.ca).
