Clarence “Mike” Smith

SMITH, Clarence “Mike” – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the Norfolk General Hospital in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Janet Smith for 61 wonderful years. Loving father of Carmen Locke (Chris) and Martin Smith. Dear grandpa of Grace and Brady. Predeceased by his sister Jean Ryan (the late Tom) and brother-in-law John Collver (Marie). He is survived by his nephew, Max Ryan (Natalie); their daughter, Alexis French (Chris); his niece, Kim Rutledge; her daughter, Haley, and his sister Linda Ryder (Sam). Sister-in-law Joan Davis (Mike); brothers-in-law Howard Collver (the late Brenda), Alan Collver (Rita) and Lloyd Collver (Sue). Will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mike was a proud farmer who devoted over 70 years to his Nixon farm—growing tobacco, pumpkins, squash and his famous Smith Spuds over the years. When the workday was done, he enjoyed cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs—win or lose, he remained a loyal fan.
Nothing made Mike prouder than his family. He adored his grandchildren and cherished family most of all.
Friends were invited to share their memories of Mike with his family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. N., Simcoe, for visitation on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and Monday, February 23, 2026, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. Mike’s funeral service was held in the chapel on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kim Shantz officiating. Interment followed the service at Oakwood Cemetery. Those wishing to donate in memory of Mike are asked to consider Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice. Special thanks to the staff of Norfolk General Hospital, especially ICU nurses Colleen, Taylor, and Rachelle for their wonderful care and compassion.
