Ione Morris

MORRIS, Norma Ione, née Howey – passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, in her 92nd year. Dear wife of Stan (2021) for 64 years. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Paul & Jamie Morris of Port Dover; Michelle & Scott Rowland of Toronto; Ian Morris & Lenie Ott of Toronto. Proud and loving grandmother of Blake & Veronica Rowland; Lisa & Chris Waugh; Brooke Morris; Blair Morris (2006); Celina Morris. She loved her great-grandchildren Charlotte, Jack, Nathan, Emma, Max, and Amelia. Survived by her cousin Mary Howey. Predeceased by her parents Harold and Lillian Howey of Paris, Ont.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Archie & Georgina Morris, Ken & Georgia Painter, and Rosemary & Clarence Mitchell.

Born and raised in Paris, Ontario, Ione met the love of her life at Port Dover’s Summer Garden dance hall. While raising a family, she was a volunteer with many groups that her children were involved in. She was a long-time and active member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Port Dover, and its Heather Club. Her ladies euchre group and weekly coffee group met for decades, and she enjoyed skating and reading historical novels. She was always available to offer a helping hand at the family’s Port Dover Maple Leaf business. More than anything else, she loved spending time with her family and had a special spot in her heart for every generation. We will miss her big, warm smiles.

Late in life, as dementia progressed, Nancy Dredge, who she called her “best friend,” kept her involved and going places until the end, for which her family will always be grateful. Our thanks to the kind and caring PSWs and home care workers who allowed her to stay in her home as long as possible and the wonderful staff of Norview Lodge.

A visitation with light lunch for Ione will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, from noon to 2:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Ave., Port Dover, 519-583-1530. Rev. Kathryn Vance officiating. Interment at Port Dover Cemetery. For those wishing, donations to the Port Dover Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
