Nancy Grant
GRANT, Nancy – Passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Norfolk General Hospital. Mrs. Nancy Grant of Simcoe in her 78th year. Beloved wife of the late Charlie (2006). Loving mother of Susan Wilson (Dave). Cherished grandma to Alex and GG to Landen. Dear sister to Sherry Roberts (Wayne), late Murray Scruton and sister-in-law to Peggy Scruton. Nancy will be sadly missed by other relatives and friends. She was a courageous person who inspired all who knew her. Friends are invited to visit from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. James United Church, corner of Stanley and Colborne St. on Friday, September 26th, 2014 where service will follow at 11 a.m. Reverend Barrie Bain and Reverend Mary Jo Patterson officiating. Interment Port Dover Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made to St. James United Church or a charity of one’s choice. Don MacIvor
MacIVOR, Donald James of Nanticoke passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Hamilton General Hospital in his 69th year. Loving husband of Laura and dear father of Daniel and Ashley. Don will be missed by his sister Marion Dean of Hamilton and sisters-in-law Ruth of Pennsylvania and Connie of Hamilton. Predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Ivey and brothers Ken, Ben, Bob and Ronald, also brother-in-law Bob Dean. Don was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #158, and past member of the Port Dover Kinsmen. He enjoyed watching movies, playing horseshoes and having a good time. Friends were invited to meet with family to share their memories of Don on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. evening only at Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519-583-1530). A service to Celebrate Don’s life was held at the funeral home Chapel on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. Interment Port Dover Cemetery. The Reverend Cathy Kay officiated. Robert Woolley
WOOLLEY, Robert Daniel “Bob” — surrounded by his loving family at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 in his 74th year. Cherished husband of Jean Woolley (nee Simpson) of Port Dover. Beloved son of Frances Woolley (late Daniel) of Simcoe.  Bob will be sadly missed by his siblings Betty Smith (Norris) of Simcoe, children Lorry Macaulay (Dan) and Terry Gibson (Margie); Dorothy McKinnon of Whitby, children Barry (Anne-Marie) and Jim (Amy); Diane Whitside (Bruce) of Port Rowan, children Hillary Moir (Greg) and Justin; and Brian Woolley (Laura) of Kitchener, children Brennan, Madison and Halle. Lovingly remembered by Jean’s siblings Roger Simpson of Port Dover, children Danny (Andrea) and Donny; Lou Van Sickle of Port Dover, children Clayton (Leslie) and Chris (Tracey); and Ken Simpson of Port Dover, children Theresa Nasser (Adam), Shelley Shuttleworth (Grant) and Kendra Simpson (Jim Barnes). Dear great uncle to many nieces, nephews and their extended families. Bob was involved for many years with Port Dover minor hockey. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Friends were invited to share their memories of Bob with his family at the Jason Smith Funeral Chapel, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe for visitation on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service was held at Grace United Church, Port Dover on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Smith and Rev. Frank Walker officiating. Interment of Ashes: Woodhouse United Cemetery at a later date. Oswald Alaune
ALAUNE, Oswald of Port Dover passed away after a lengthy illness on September 8, 2014 at St. Peters Hospital, Hamilton in his 65th year. Known by many as the “Big O”’, Ozzie spent most of his working life on the lake as a commercial fisherman. He will be remembered by his good friends Robert Giles and Jim McIntyre. In keeping with Ozzie’s wishes cremation has taken place with all services being private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Ave Port Dover (519-583-1530). Gertraude Roesch
ROESCH, Gertraude of Simcoe. The family of Gertraude Elly Roesch sadly announces her passing surrounded by many family members on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Brantford General Hospital in her 89th year. Predeceased by her husband Otto Roesch (1985), her sister Lisbeth Rösch (2003) and her brother Herbert Fiedler (2012). She will be lovingly remembered by her children Henry of Goderich, Margaret (Don) Werden of  Port Ryerse, Barbara (André Dubé) Roesch of Embrun, Ron (Wendy Yule) of Leduc, and Terry of Guelph. Oma will be missed by her grandchildren and step-grandchildren Allison, Brendan, Christopher, Dryden, Ellycia, Jacqueline, Jennifer, Karly, Katherine, Laura, LauraLee, Lisa, Nolan, Patrick (Angela), and Paul and her great-grandchildren Kylan and Logan, as well as many nieces and nephews residing in Germany and China. Born in Germany, Gertraude immigrated to Canada in 1950, married Otto, and lived in Norfolk County for more than 60 years. She was a hard-working woman with a fierce determination to be independent and lived on her own until the end. The family wishes to invite friends to share their memories of Gertraude on Sunday, September 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519-583-1530). A light lunch will follow at the Port Dover Legion, Market Street East at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind Library or the Canadian Wildlife Federation – Gertraude loved her talking books and her birds – or to a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated. TIPPING, Irene Bernice (nee Buchta) passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Norfolk General Hospital in her 79th year. Loving wife of Jack, dear mother of Jon (Jesse Webb) of Windsor and Judith (Rob Lee) Tipping-Lee of Oakville. Proud grandmother of Nolan, Livia, Keegan, Callum and Danann. Cherished sister of Olga Parks, Irene will also be lovingly remembered by her niece Deborah Parks and nephew Ted Parks. Predeceased by her parents John and Mary and brother-in-law Ted Parks. A Celebration of Life will be held in Irene’s memory on Saturday, September 27, 2014 with an open house at the Erie Beach Hotel in the Capri Room from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519-583-1530).
