The perch are biting!

Port Dover Maple Leaf harbourThis year’s Port Dover Perch Derby got off to a rousing start with eight tagged perch caught on opening day Saturday, four on Sunday and four on Monday.
As well, lucky daily draw winners collected prizes in Junior, Intermediate and Adult divisions for landing any perch.
Saturday’s winners of the green tagged perch that have a $1,000 pay-out were James Olah, Dave Thompson, Kim Hammond, Brett Smith. Sunday’s green tagged perch winner was Matt Kleinsteuber. Monday’s green tagged perch winners were Kim Rocheleau and Thomas Trudell.
Grey tagged perch winners each will receive $100. Saturday’s winners were Mathew Rocheleau, James Olah, Mark Cudmore, Kim Hammond. Sunday winners were Angie Mitchell, Brett Smith, Kim Hammond. Monday’s winners were Gary Foster and Mark Cudmore.
Winners of Saturday’s Daily Draws were: Eliska Stanly (Junior), Hayden Walker (Intermediate), Ron Gray (Senior). Sunday winners were: Finn Georgiev (Jr), Sawyer Tompson (Int), Tina Misfud (Sr).
Last Friday was the successful Cast Off Party at Port Dover community centre where the crowd consumed 400 pounds of chicken wings and hundreds of hot dogs while trying their luck on the many penny table items.
The annual Perch Derby continues all this week and next week. A total of $23,500 in tagged perch are available to be caught. Registration is required to win. The Reel In Party where prizes are awarded takes place at Port Dover Legion on Saturday, May 10th.

Dave Matthews tug “Frisky” and a crew of helpers including John Wells Jr., Elizabeth Wells, Dean Wells, Petra Stewart, John Kilpatrick, Addison and Camryn Kilpatrick, Michael Petrochuk, Bryce Petrochuk, Charlie and Diane Luke, Meika Matthews, Jeremiah Wamsley, Tyler Foster and Emily Foster ensured the tagged perch were safely returned to the local waters.
