Midgets get Silver in OMHA finals

Port Dover Midget Pirates hockey team was in a hard-played Ontario Midget Hockey Assn. provincial finals against Norwood.
Port Dover lost game one in Norwood on March 15th by a score of 4-0.
Playing before a full crowd at the local arena, Game 2 was in Port Dover on Saturday (Mar. 22) and went to Norwood 3-0. Game 3 in the best of five series was played in Norwood on Sunday and was won by the home team 7-0 giving Norwood the Ontario Midget ‘C’ championship and Port Dover Silver.
Port Dover’s Midget team had a remarkably successful season … declared by Assistant Coach Paul Murphy to be the first Port Dover team in 12 years to make it to the OMHA finals … winning three banners!
The Pirates had a strong season winning two Silver Stick banners and lost the Silver Stick International banner in an overtime period, claiming second place. The team won an OMHA banner.
The age group for Midget players is 15 to 17 years. Asst. Coach Murphy stated many of this team’s players would be back for next season.
