Dearly loved mother of Steven, Randy, Linda and Anne-Marie. Proud grandmother of 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. HENDRIKSEN, Jacob of Port Dover at Norfolk General Hospital, on Monday, April 10, 2006 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Neeltje “Nellie” for 59 years, they met during WWII in Indonesia when Jacob was serving in the Dutch Army. Cherished father and father-in-law of Jay, Adrian and Christena, Rob and Patti and Carla and Tim Marrin. Much loved grandfather of Karen, Rob, Jennifer, Jordan, James, Brett, and Brad. Dear brother of Cor, Hennie and Truis. George Ross

ROSS, George of Port Dover at Dover Cliffs Nursing Home on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 in his 81st year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Betty (December 2005). Dearly loved father and father-in-law of Lynda and Dave Otterman, Carol Lickers and Don Procunier. Proud grandfather of Krysta Otterman and friend Todd, Dana Otterman and friend Mike. George was a long time and honourary life member of the Port Dover Volunteer Fire Department. He served many years as Fire Co-Ordinator for the former County of Norfolk and Region of Haldimand-Norfolk and retired as City of Nanticoke District Chief, Station 2 Port Dover, in 1990. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. A service of interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations to the Port Dover Fire Dept. ‘E.R.V. Earl Sherman

SHERMAN, Earl of Port Dover, peacefully at Dover Cliffs Nursing Home, on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 in his 86th year. Loving husband and best friend for 66 years of Hazel. Cherished father and father-in-law of Connie and Peter Monsen of Peterborough, Ted and Betty of Combermere, and Molly and Rick Barber of Port Dover. Proud Grandpa of Terry (Mike), Patti (Brian), Peter (Kim), Scott (Shannon), Bart (Sherry), Brad (Kathleen) and Kendra (Luca); and great Papa of twelve. Dear brother of Stanley of Buffalo. Predeceased by his brother Charles. Earl was a veteran of WWII in the United States Navy, in the South Pacific on a PT boat. He was an avid trap shooter and was recognized for his distinguished performance in the field of amateur sport by receiving the National Achievement Award in 1987 and the Ontario Championship in 1991. Earl will be missed, but his family and friends have special memories of him. Cremation has taken place. A Service to Celebrate Earl’s life was held Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Grace United Church, (Chapman & St. George Sts.) Port Dover. Reverend Frank Walker officiated. BUTTS, Jean of Dover Cliffs Nursing Home on Monday, March 27, 2006 in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her husband Charles (1992). Dearly loved mother and mother-in-law of Walter and Janice Butts of St. Williams, Gordon and Lucille Butts of Sault Ste. Marie and Ruth and Martin Halunga of Toronto. Cherished grandmother of several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Predeceased by her brothers Alan Cameron and Irwin Butts and sister Margaret Waddle. Jean was a member of Silver Lake Rebekah Lodge #150, U.C.W., Grace United Church and the Women’s Institute. She was also a very active member of the Rebekah Lodge in Phoenix, AZ when she and Charles spent the winters there. In keeping with Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Dear grandfather of Noelle, Denise, Paul, Joshua, Rebecca, Scott, Kevin, Brody and Brianna. Beloved son of Elizabeth Stephens. Mr. Stephens was predeceased by his father Colonel Hugh Stephens, his brothers Ted and Lyle, and by is sisters-in-law Eileen, Barbara and Marion and by his brother-in-law Bill Rolston. William was employed for 30 years at Weston Bakeries, was a member of Toastmasters and was formerly involved with the Galt Little Theatre. KARGES, John Gerald ‘Jack’ of Port Dover, peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in his 70th year. Loving father of Mark and Regan Karges of Port Dover and Michael Karges of Rockaway Beach, Missouri. Cherished grandfather of Rasa Karges. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Terry and Joyce Karges of Port Dover. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Jack was an avid hockey player and fan, he was a member of the 1961-62 Port Dover Intermediate ‘B’ Champions. He served his community as a firefighter on the Port Dover Fire Department from 1964 to 1985 at which time he retired and became a life member. Jack was a skilled tradesman, he took great pride in his work both as a linesman / journeyman and a home builder. He will be sadly missed by his furry companion ‘Cody’. She worked at Ivey’s Flowers for many years and owned and operated the fishing boat Captain ‘K’ with her husband Bill. WIGGANS, Evelyn – At Lakeridge Health Centre, Oshawa, Ontario on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. Evelyn Wiggans in her 105th year, beloved wife of the late Stephen Wiggans (1980). During the early years, Evelyn and her husband ran two separate restaurant businesses in the Oshawa area steering the trend for their son Gary and his three sons to start up grocery stores in the Port Dover, Port Rowan and Straffordville areas. Evelyn’s grandsons presently run businesses in Brantford, Port Dover and Port Rowan. Cliff and Vicky, sons Tyler and Stephen Wiggans; Murray Wiggans and Amie Trinder; Jeff and Kara Wiggans and their family, wish to pay tribute to their Grandmother. Evelyn had 7 children, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Blair will be sadly missed by his cousins Michelle, Kim, Blake, Lisa, Bailey, Jessie and Hannah. Blair was a student at Bloomsburg Public School, Room 5. He will be remembered fondly by his classmates, teachers and staff and his extended family of caregivers. Faithful and loving husband to Betty for 62 years, devoted father of Ronald and his wife Shirley of Port Ryerse, and Sharon Gardner of Port Dover and son-in-law Jim Gardner. Adoring and proud grandfather of Katharine and Jill Syreichtchikova (nee Gardner) and her husband Ivan. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Robert and Ruth Ammerman of Windham Centre and caring uncle of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister, Violet King. A dedicated and professional Cronkwright Transport driver with a 40-year safe driving record, was presented with the Million Mile Safe Driving Award by Mack Trucks, Inc. He enjoyed his holidays in the North country teaching his grandchildren the finer points of fishing and boating. Art was a man of honour with a great love and respect for family, friends, and neighbours. His kindheartedness and generosity will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him. THURMAN, Norine Grace (nee Mills, formerly Francis, Cassidy). After a valiant struggle as a patient at Norfolk General Hospital, Norine was called to peace on Saturday, February 4, 2006. She will be loved forever and always and beyond by her earth family; her dearly loved husband Fred Thurman (Port Dover); her children Jennifer Francis of Port Dover, Gerald (Shirley) Francis of North York, Jeffrey (Niki) Francis of London, Jane Bradshaw of Kelowna, B.C. and step-children Maureen (Paul) O’Dwyer of Townsend, Tim (Brenda) Cassidy of Jarvis, Valerie (Tim) Webb of Gloustershire, England and John Thurman of Essex, England. Norine will be fondly remembered by her ten grandchildren, and nine step grandchildren, as well as several little GGs. Norine was predeceased by her parents John Burton Mills and Gladys (Robertson) Mills of Goderich, her infant grandson, Jessie Francis, of Victoria, B.C., and her second husband Bill Cassidy, formerly of Jarvis. Norine was an active member of the Port Dover community for 23 years. She was a member of Grace United Church, sang in the choir, and played leadership roles in the U.C.W. (being honoured with a lifetime membership pin), Lakeshore Women’s Institute and Silver Lake Rebekah Lodge, No. 150. During her working years she was employed as a professional secretary. Her preserves, good home cooking and her flawless knitting will be remembered with appreciation. A new soprano has joined the heavenly hosts singing and praising God. In keeping with Norine’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at Grace United Church, Chapman and St. George Sts. on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at 1 p.m., a Rebekah Service at 2 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Service. PETITO, Margaret June (nee MacDonald), of Montrose, Colorado at Montrose Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 23, 2006 in her 81st year, after a short illness. Beloved wife of George, they would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on May 11, 2006. Cherished mother of Lynda Jackson Petito and Bonnie Petito Chlipala of Crested Butte, Colorado; and Cindy Lee Petito of Denver, Colorado. Adored grandmother of Jackson Petito of Los Angeles, California; Hannah and Bailey Valian of Denver, Colorado; and Maggie Chlipala of Crested Butte. Much loved sister, sister-in-law, and aunt to Maynard and Andrew MacDonald and their families of Port Dover, along with many other relatives in Port Dover, across Canada and the U.S. Margaret was born in 1924 in Port Dover and married George Petito of Niagara Falls, New York in 1946, after she had served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. The Petitos resided in Niagara Falls, NY until 1968 and then lived in San Pedro and Anaheim, both in southern California, until 2000 when they moved to Colorado to be closer to their three daughters and four grandchildren. Margaret was a voracious reader and had a sharp and curious mind throughout her life and amazed everyone with her knowledge of many different subjects. She enjoyed two weeks in Port Dover this past July where she visited with her family and many old friends. She will be missed by all who knew her well or even slightly, as she was one of the kindest women ever to walk this earth. Predeceased by her parents James “Square Jim” MacDonald and Mary Jane Phillips and four of her six siblings, Albert, Bill, Alma and Jack. Cremation took place according to Margaret’s wishes and a memorial service was held on January 25 in Montrose. Donations in Margaret’s name can be made to the Port Dover Harbour Museum.
