Celebrating the Life of Jackie Ferris Baker, UE

On April 27 – 28, Jackie’s many friends and family are celebrating her remarkable life, committing her ashes to peace in the family cemetery plot overlooking Long Point Bay.
In March, Karen Bosworth, her life-long friend, beautifully described in Port Rowan Good News our first meeting as the life we came to share unfolded, 62 years ago. Jackie had remarkable interests, skills and talents, led by her high intelligence, yet always unpretentious demeanor.
We shared a love of music, especially church hymns, classical piano and symphonic pieces. For many seasons we were supporters of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Her favorites were compositions of Chopin, Debussy, Dvorak, Rachmaninoff and Saint Saens.
She had great textile and needlework skills, creating most of her clothing, baby and children’s knitwear, tapestries and exquisite needlepoint works. Her gardens, knowledge of horticulture and flower arrangements were superb.
Jackie devoured one or two novels weekly, while following current affairs at home and abroad; voting in every election. After 32 years in Europe, she commanded Dutch and French languages well. Her encyclopedic knowledge of history, from European royals and nations, USA, Canada and Norfolk County was unique. She had accurate knowledge of churches, homes, families, farms, and the people of Norfolk. This led to active roles in several County advisory committees and historic associations. She served on the historic Christ Church, Vittoria, Board.
As Therapeutic Dietitian, (a marvelous chef de cuisine), she served many prominent people in Toronto, Chicago and New York hospitals, including the Duke of Windsor, Casey Stengel, Academy Award Winning actor Montgomery Clift, and political people. Yet she wrote her happiest day in any hospital was when our first son David was born in January 1965.
Our 4 children and 7 grandkids were constantly on her mind; how to encourage them; best support each spouse and all of them. She insisted we visit all in December, despite her deteriorating health. Jackie’s unbounded love, faith, fidelity, integrity and hope kept her going, right until the last few days. Farewell to the love of my life; we’ll meet again, dear Jackie. Our fine example of a faithful Christian believer, filled with God’s Holy Spirit, the Love of God.
