Port Dover Peewees and Midgets kicked off their first games of semi final action for the all Ontario C championship on Friday here in Port Dover.
The arena was packed to the rafters to support these two teams who have come so far in their quest for this title.
The Peewees hit the ice first and wasted no time with Sam Walker netting the first goal for Port Dover at 6:34 in the first period. Jordan Knechtel and Ben Mason came up with the assists.
A few minutes later in the first, Jacob Millard echoed with an assist from Matt Hielema. Those two goals would go unanswered until Belmont scored in the second.
Millard and Hielema tag teamed again to make it 3-1. Early in the third, Millard would net his hat trick with Hielema assisting for a final time.
Belmont would reply with two minutes left but Hielema would net a Dover goal assisted by Walker with less than a minute remaining for a final of 5-2 for Port Dover.
The Midgets then took to the ice for some great back and forth action and came out of it with a 4-4 tie after an exciting sudden death overtime. Sawyer Thompson, Nathan Killingbeck both scored and Chase Swarts netted two for Dover.
Both teams headed to Belmont Sunday night.
The Peewees took to the ice first with Belmont netting the first two goals. Matt Hielema would respond with Port Dover’s first goal at 1:23 in the first period and again in the second period to tie it up.
