Bill Hanna
HANNA, William John “Bill”. Surrounded by his loving family at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton on Saturday, July 26, 2014 in his 89th year. Bill was a loving husband to Joyce for over 60 years and a devoted father to his son Donald and daughter-in-law Rebecca Hanna; doting grandfather to Jennifer and Corrie Hanna-Best (Timothy) and special great “Grandpa Dude” to Bethany Mehlenbacher, Quinton Best and Sadie Best.  Bill was predeceased by his parents, R.J. and Marjorie Hanna and by his sister Marion McNeilly and brother-in-law Don McNeilly. During WWII, Bill served with the Canadian Navy on the HMCS Inch Arran (1944) and the HMCS Ste. Therese (1945). Bill was appointed as the Port Dover Post Master in 1953 and diligently held this position for 34 years. Bill a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch #158 in Port Dover and of the Norfolk Stamp Club. A memorial celebration will be held in the common room at 11 Mill Pond Court, Simcoe on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Those wishing to donate in Bill’s memory are asked to consider the Port Dover Legion and donations may be made through the Jason Smith Funeral Chapel, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe. Laurie Hansen
Hansen, Laurie Elizabeth. Beloved daughter of Lenore McKeen (Jack) of Port Dover and Bill Hansen of St. Catharines. Dear sister of Shelley Law (Mike) of Welland. Special Auntie Laurie of Emily and Marissa Law. Loving granddaughter of Janet Hansen (late Earl) of Port Colborne and Joyce Sokach (late Nick) of Ridgeway. Laurie is also survived by many uncles, aunts and cousins. Laurie passed away in Calgary in her 31st year, on Thursday, July 17, 2014. She grew up in Welland and moved to Calgary in 2012, where she worked as a veterinary technician. Friends are invited to call at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens & Visitation Centre, 2256 Hwy 20, Fonthill on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A service to celebrate Laurie’s life will be held in the chapel at 1 o’clock. Donations to Welland and District SPCA or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family. Edward Alan Ireland
IRELAND, Edward Alan of Simcoe passed away after a brief illness at his residence on Sunday, July 27, 2014 in his 59th year. Loving husband of Janet, treasured father of David (Michelle) of Etobicoke, Mark (Bre), John and Marie all of Simcoe. Grateful grandfather of Olivia. Edward will be missed by his sister Vivian (Colin) Middleton of the UK. Predeceased by his parents Alan and Violet. Edward was a proud farmer and a devoted family man. He will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. In keeping with Edward’s wishes cremation has taken place. Alex Landon
LANDON, Alex Tillman (P.Ag., AACI) – passed away at the Norview Lodge, Simcoe on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Doris Landon (nee Hammond) of Simcoe. Loving father of Zeb Landon (Laurie McGregor) of Simcoe, Alexis Landon (Reiner Jakubowski) of Waterloo, Beth Lawrence (Donald) of Waterloo and Charity Landon of Toronto. Cherished grandfather of Alicia and Kelly Lawrence. Alex will be lovingly remembered by his sister Mary Bodnar of Simcoe and by Doris’ sister Betty Murton (Douglas) of Waterford. Alex will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Predeceased by his siblings Robert Landon, James Landon, Thomas Landon and Eva Marshall. A graduate of the Ontario Agricultural College (’49), Alex was a Jersey breeder who farmed in Norfolk and Perth counties. In 1964, as recipient of a Nuffield Scholarship, he travelled extensively throughout Great Britain to study agricultural practices. Later in his career, Alex qualified as a professional agrologist and accredited real property appraiser. Friends were invited to share their memories of Alex with his family at the Jason Smith Funeral Chapel, 689 Norfolk St. North, Simcoe for visitation on Friday, July 25, 2014. A funeral service was held in the chapel on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tom Sero officiating. Interment:  Oakwood Cemetery, Simcoe. Marion Moodie
MOODIE, Marion. Entered into rest on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe, in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late William Moodie. Loving mother to Gary (Linda) of Jarvis, Frank (Linda) of Port Dover and predeceased by her daughter Gail McKenzie and her husband Bob. Marion is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and predeceased by two grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her extended family and friends. The service took place from the Miller Funeral Chapel, Caledonia, on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. with visitation being held two hours prior, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment in Caledonia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

BUCK, Betty Alice. Peacefully, at her home in Port Dover, on Friday, July 18, 2014. Betty (nee Quanbury) formerly of R.R. 5, Simcoe, six days before her 85th birthday. Wife of the late Bill (2010). Beloved mother of Wendy and Darcy Mitchell, Debbie Bisson and Jeff Simon, Scott Buck all of Port Dover. Mother-in-law of Sheron Buck of R.R. 5, Simcoe and Janice Buck of Port Dover. Loving grandmother of Shawn and Laurie, Stephanie and Dana; Stacy, Michael and Nadia; Brad and Jonelle, Abby, Charly, Ginny; Tara and Dylan; Jason, Chris and Shaundra and 16 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by sons, Roger (1967), Marc (2001) and Wayne (2010), grandsons Cody (1984) and Ryan (2001). Sister of Elsie Lawrence and Ernie Quanbury. Irene Dougherty
DOUGHERTY, Irene Anne (nee Payne). Passed away Saturday, July19, 2014 at Cedarwood Village in her 87th year. Predeceased by her husband Alan (2004). Much loved mother of Virginia (Cracker) Smith, Grant (Violet), Ruth (Richard) Camirand, Paul, Dave (Brenda) all of Port Dover and Elsa Mae (Rick) of St.Williams. Proud grandmother of Kam, Kathy, Kerry, Kevin, Brianne, Kyle, Tia, Tyler, Darren, Jenelle, Andie-Mae, Damon, Dayna and Dalton. Irene will be missed by her sisters Lois Powell and Christie Verbakel. Predeceased by her brother Donald Payne, sister Jean and brothers-in-law Derry Balch, Jack Powell and Fred Verbakel. Irene enjoyed knitting clothes for the “preemies” at Toronto Sick Kid’s Hospital, taking walks and being with family. David Connor
CONNOR, David Bryan of Port Dover passed away at his home on Sunday, July 6, 2014 in his 72nd year. David is survived by his loving wife Judy, cherished daughter Pamela (Sherwin) Aloysius of Brampton, brother Gregory (Sue) Connor of Brampton and sister-in-law Gloria (John) Fraser of Mooretown. David’s parents Edna and Russ Connor predeceased him. He was the proud grandfather of Kaia Monize. David is also survived by nieces and nephews Sandra (Ken), Kyle (Sophie), Jennifer (Shane), Katherine and Danielle as well as by a great-niece and great-nephews Simon, Nolan, AJ, Emily Grace and Saxon. David graduated from Ryerson Polytechnic Institute in 1966 with a diploma in Production Technology and later received his Masters in Applied Science at the University of Waterloo. He spent his career in manufacturing management, most notably with Fiberglas Canada. Following retirement David developed a keen interest in garden railroading and made great friends through this unique hobby. He loved movies and walking his two dogs, Clancy and Riley. NOVINKA, Anne – Passed away peacefully at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the age of 91. She was just 11 days away from her 92nd birthday. Predeceased by her parents John and Catherine Popovich. Beloved wife of the late Nick Novinka (2002). Devoted and cherished mother to Sandra (Bill) Van Gaal, Brantford, Linda (Clare) Novinka, Simcoe, David (Karen) Novinka, Nanticoke, Ken (Yvonne) Novinka, Simcoe, Cathy Novinka, Port Dover. Loving grandmother of Kellie, Darryl, Brian, Blain, Leslie, Robin, Michael and Andrew. Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Mary Popovich. Predeceased by a great-granddaughter Mackenzie, and brother Mike Popovich and sisters Stella Haydey, Mary Kupchik and Alice French. Mulkins, Kenneth Francis. Died peacefully at Gardenview Long Term Care, Townsend, on late Friday evening, July 11, 2014. Kenneth Mulkins, formerly of R.R. 1 Jarvis, Port Dover and Simcoe, in his 85th year. Beloved father of Bill of Toronto and Bob and his wife Holly, of Jarvis. Dear grandfather of 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Brother of Lloyd and Doris Mulkins of Hagersville. Ken was predeceased by his infant daughter Deborah and by his sister Marie and her husband Leonard Hayes. Josh Farrell
FARRELL, Joshua James. It is with shattered hearts the family announces the tragic passing of Josh as a result of an industrial accident on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the age of 29. Loving husband of Jessica, devoted father of Ava-Rae and Baustyn. Josh will be profoundly missed by his parents, Ray and Nancy and sister Kate. He will be deeply missed by his grandfather Del, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Predeceased by grandparents, Grace Farrell, Ambrose and Nora Campbell and Uncle Jim Farrell. Family was everything to Josh, his beautiful children were his life. He gave everything to all he did with the largest heart possible. He was very involved in minor hockey as a youth in Port Dover. Friends were invited to call at Cooper Funeral Home, 19 Talbot Street West, Jarvis on Monday, June 30, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 1-3 p.m. A Celebration of Life was held at 1730 Concession 5 Woodhouse, (South of Jarvis) on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 beginning at 4 p.m. The family would like to thank all the friends that have come by to show such amazing love and support during this unimaginably devastating time. Victor is also survived by his brother Doug, and brother-in-law Jake. Predeceased by his parents Arthur and Margaret, brother Robert, sister Anna and sister-in-law Betty.
