Susan Berg
BERG, Susan Kelly (nee Cormier) passed away peacefully on January 14, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton in her 57th year. Loving mother of Rob (Joanna) of Vittoria, Brian (Lyndsay) of Rhineland and Jason also of Vittoria. Dear grandmother of Sierra, Madisyn, Sumer, Lucas, Leah and Brandon. Kindly remembered by Andrea Harriott of Vittoria. Cherished sister of Tom (Betty) Brown of Owen Sound and Paul Cormier of Germany. Predeceased by her husband Bob, parents Wilmer and Verna and sister Adrienne Wright. Susan was a kind and generous person often putting others before herself, she will be sadly missed. Special thanks to all the members of Kindness Kounts group on Facebook for their generosity, as well as Karren Harriott and Carrie Butler. Celebration of Life will be held in Susan’s memory on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Vittoria Community Centre. Lois Corbett
CORBETT, Winnie “Lois” (nee Robinson) – promoted to the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Thursday, January 14, 2016 in her 84th year. Beloved wife of the late John Corbett (2011). Loving mother and grandmother of Elizabeth Corbett (John Luscombe) of Brantford, her children Chad Baillargeon; Bonnie Peekstok (Jake) of Cayuga, their children Adamo Morelli (Cindy), Racheal Bernard (Phillip), Nathan and Adam Peekstok; Brenda Fortin (Ted Sorokos) of Dunnville, her children Jason (Amy) and Jeffrey (Caryn); the late Donald Corbett (1977); and Jim Corbett (Tracy) of Cayuga, their children Josh, Candace Crowston (John Richardson) and Nicholas. Lois is also survived by many great-grandchildren. Lovingly remembered by her sister Ruth Marshall (John) of Simcoe and by her brother-in-law Ed Hunter of Port Dover. Predeceased by her sister Joan Hunter. Friends were invited to share their memories of Lois with her family at the Jason Smith Funeral Chapel, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe for visitation on Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. A funeral service was held from Emmanuel Bible Church, 24 Churchill Circle, Simcoe on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Raymond Thompson officiating. A private family burial preceded the service at Port Dover Cemetery. Edna Pratt
PRATT, Edna M. (nee Bryanton) was in her 101st year and passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 9, 2016 at Malaspina Gardens, Nanaimo, BC. A former Port Dover resident, Edna was one of the original 150 women recruited into the Royal Canadian Air Force and a veteran of World War II. Post war, she worked with the United Nations helping to relocate the displaced persons in Europe and upon returning to Canada, worked with the Federal Government until her retirement. She was a long-standing member and supporter of the RCAF Association, the Royal Canadian Legion, The Eastern Star, and The Red Hats. She will be returning to Rimbey, Alberta for her final rest beside her beloved husband of 54 years, William (Bill) F. Pratt. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Fletcher and the staff at Malaspina Gardens for their excellent care and attention to her comfort and care. Ian Priestly
PRIESTLY, Ian Graham. It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Ian Graham Priestly, age 48, of Port Dover, Ontario, surrounded by his wife and children on Saturday, January 9, 2016. He will be sadly and forever missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Anita and the three loving children they were blessed with; Tiana, Anthony and Vanessa. He is also survived by his loving parents Michael and Maisie Priestly of Nanaimo, B.C.; sister Jane (Brian) Saunders, brother Alastair (Susan) Priestly, sister Heather Priestly and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, aunts and uncles. He took great pride in his work as a Forestry Engineer. Climbing the mountains of B.C. was his greatest passion next to being a wonderful, devoted, and amazing father and husband. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Nanaimo, British Columbia followed by a private family reception. Jean Archer
ARCHER, Margaret “Jean” (nee Shand) passed away peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital Burlington on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in her 90th year. Loving mother of David (Donna) of Hamilton, Lynne (Ron) Borgatti of Burlington and Jane (Brad) Kelley of Tiverton. Dear grandmother of Daniel (Jessica), Michael, Adam, Lauren (Doug), Nicole (Shayne) and David. Proud great-grandmother of Norah, Kate and Dean. She will be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Sylvia. Predeceased by her husband Harold (2002), parents William and Wilhelmine and brother Jack. Jean worked for the Intercity Papers, and was a member of the Mississauga Hospital Auxiliary; she was also involved with the Applewood Brownies and Cubs. Jean was an avid hockey fan, enjoyed knitting and belonged to a 5th generation Port Dover farming family. Jean and her husband Harold retired to Burks Falls and finally came home to Port Dover in 1994. Reuben Kotanko
KOTANKO – Reuben Robert: Passed away at the Norfolk General Hospital on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 of Simcoe in his 86th year. Son of the Late Nick and Pauline Kotanko and much beloved husband of Elinor (nee: Bartlett). Loving father of Rodger (Jessie), Michael, Suzanne Kantor (Darryl), Jeff (Claire Reyes), Marilyn Carrie (Greg), Charlene Madgewick (Tony Gorham), and was predeceased by his daughter Vickie Kantor. Cherished grandfather of Colton, Conner, Sarah (Rob), Nickeifer, Alexander, Melissa, Amanda, Adam, Marie, Alina and was predeceased by granddaughter Rebecca. Also surviving is his sister Esther Melnechuk, sister-in-law Marion Gardner, brother-in-law Robert Bartlett (Lil) and numerous nieces and nephews. Reuben was predeceased by two sisters, two brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Reuben operated Kotanko Plumbing and Heating for many years and was a member of The Six Nations Seventh Day Adventist and a former member of The Simcoe Seventh Day Adventist. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 1 – 5 p.m. at The Baldock Funeral Home, 96 Norfolk St. N., Simcoe where the funeral will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment at Port Dover Cemetery to follow. Edward Ireland
IRELAND, John “Edward”. Peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Ed passed away at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe. Dear soul mate to Linda Lindsay, Port Dover. Father to Richard (Joanne), Sheila Quinn (Steve), Randy (Juanita) and Rob. Stepfather to Dean and Michael Lindsay. Dear brother to Marvin (Carol) and Dorene Upson (Dave Henigan). Predeceased by parents Jim Ireland and Edna Cooper, daughter Patricia (2001) and daughter-in-law Debbie (2015). Grandfather to 14 and great-grandfather to 13. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Stedman Hospice and the nurses from CBI for their care over the past two months as well as Dr. Roland Di Gregorio for his care over the past few years. Ed loved his cigars, country music, dancing and the occasional beer. He can now be seen dancing among the stars with his mom. As per Ed’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there shall be no visitation. A private family burial of ashes will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Onondaga, and a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Michael O’Neil
O’NEIL, Michael “Mike”. (March 7, 1951 – December 25, 2015) Passed peacefully, after a brave struggle with pancreatic cancer, at the Norfolk General Hospital. Mike is survived by his wife and best friend, Sue (nee Lambert); his loving parents, Charlie (Chuck) and Rita O’Neil; and his little buddy, Largo. Predeceased by his in-laws and second parents, Al and Lil Lambert. “Big brother” to Jane Lambert, Laurie and Mike Allen, Heather Lambert, Scott and Vesna Lambert, and Chrissie McCrum. Uncle to Erik and his fiancée Paulina, Andrei, and Alison. Mike touched the lives of so many in Canada and the U.S. He will be terribly missed by Rick, Sylvie and Joe; Jess and Andy; Gary and Judy; Jack and Veronica; Chuck and Petey; Ruthie; Sylvia; The Strecker family; Yvonne and David; Joanne; Jocelyn; Judy; Edwina and countless others. Mike and Sue were grateful for the support and concern of their neighbours in Port Dover. Additionally, they were very appreciative for the excellent care received from the wonderful staff at the Brant Community Cancer Clinic at Brantford General Hospital, and the caring people at the Norfolk General Hospital. RICHARDSON, John Macklem “Mac” – On December 16, 2015 at 2:00 a.m. we lost our dearly loved John Macklem (Mac) Richardson. He was in his 81st year. Mac leaves to mourn, his devoted wife Gwen (Shrubb) and two sons, Drew and Laurie, and Brent. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jake, and Sara (without an “h”). Also survived by his sisters, Helen Phibbs (William), Martha Taylor (Terry), and many nieces, and nephews, and his loved dog Cindy. RUNDLE, John Philip (Port Dover): Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 2, 2016, in his 86th year. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen “Kay” (née Anderson), beloved sons and hunting companions, Philip (Lorreanne) and Keith (friend, Mia) granddaughter, Jaime Lee (Robert Rezek), and great-grandson, Nathan; siblings, Frank “Paddy” (Dorothy), Patricia Demmerling (Earl, deceased), and Robert (Velma). Predeceased by brother, William (1982) and daughter, Patricia Jean (2005). John spent 34+ years with Ontario Provincial Police. Cremation has already taken place. SULLIVAN, Bernice Marie (nee Abel) of Port Dover at Cedarwood Village on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 in her 85th year. Predeceased by her beloved and devoted husband of 58 years, Frank Sullivan. Cherished father of Patti of Toronto and Marc and his wife Karen of Port Dover. Proud grandmother of Corey, Matthew and James Sullivan and Sherri Evans. Dear sister of Barbara Hutton. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Bernice was a past president of the Port Dover Kinettes and a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #158. Bernice spent a lot of time with her friends at line dancing and was a member of TOPS.
